EVOX 12. a portable, self-powered line source loudspeaker accompanied by a 15-inch subwoofer.
The top section of the new EVOX 12 incorporates eight neodymium 4-inch cone transducers with a phase plug, designed to increase low-mid performance at a constant level, with a wider dispersion for the highs. The coverage pattern is stated as 90 x 30 degrees (h x v), frequency response as 40 Hz to 20 kHz, and maximum SPL as 130 dB.
EVOX 12 is driven by a 1,400-watt (peak) class D power amplifier, which delivers up to 400 watts to the HF and 1,000 watts to the LF. Housed in the companion subwoofer, the amplifier is outfitted with a DSP-controlled crossover that’s carefully matched to the transducers. The sub and loudspeaker are linked via a SPEAKON 2-pole locking connector.
A volume control on the rear panel of the subwoofer provides adjustment of system level. This location also includes line level and input/output connectors, with the XLR output providing a loop-thru for daisy-chaining additional loudspeakers. Status indicators are provided for power, signal and built-in limiting that prevents clipping of the amplifier.
In addition, there’s an EQ switch for selecting “boost” mode for applications such as background music when the system plays at a low level or when two systems are coupled. For other applications, the “flat” mode is recommended. And, a mic/line switch is provided for adjusting input sensitivity.
Both cabinets are constructed of Baltic birch plywood. Combined weight of the package is 76 pounds. A pole for mounting the line source loudspeaker atop the subwoofer is provided, and the sub is outfitted with recessed rear wheels and an extendable handle for convenient transport.
Protection is provided by soft covers. The subwoofer’s cover allows use of the wheels and handles, while the loudspeaker’s cover includes a side pocket for the pole and cables.
